Big Differences between Biomass Pellets and Fossil Fuels

Fuel has been used primarily to keep factories and ecosystems running smoothly for many years. Starting from the industrial age to the current AI age, not only human but also fuel resources have been widely applied. What gonna make big differences between natural fuel aka fossil fuel, and biomass fuel ?

(1) How are these sources found ?

Biomass fuel is derived from organic materials such as plants, agricultural residues, forestry residues, and organic waste. These materials are typically renewable and can be replenished quickly through natural processes such as photosynthesis.

Natural fuel aka Fossil fuels are formed from the remains of ancient plants and animals that have undergone geological processes over millions of years. Common fossil fuels include coal, crude oil, and natural gas. Fossil fuels are non-renewable resources because their formation takes geological timescales, and obviously the sources are limited.

(2) Environmental Impact:

Biomass fuels are generally considered to be carbon-neutral over their lifecycle. While burning biomass releases carbon dioxide (CO2) into the atmosphere, the carbon emitted is roughly equivalent to the carbon absorbed by the plants during their growth. However, biomass fuel production can still have environmental impacts, such as deforestation or habitat destruction if not managed sustainably.

Burning fossil fuels releases carbon dioxide and other greenhouse gasses into the atmosphere, contributing to global warming and climate change. Additionally, extracting, processing, and burning fossil fuels can cause environmental damage, air and water pollution, habitat destruction, and other negative impacts.

(3) Renewability

Biomass fuels are renewable resources as long as they are harvested sustainably and new plants are grown to replace those used for fuel. Moreover, mass production of biomass fuels relies on productivity skills and raw materials.

Fossil fuels are non-renewable resources because they cannot be replenished on a human timescale. Once they are depleted, they are gone forever.
